 Detailed Itinerary 2 Days Gorilla Trekking Rwanda Tour

Day 1. Kigali city and genocide memorial site tour

Your drive guide will pick you at your hotel or airport early morning to begin your 2 day gorilla tour in Rwanda. Your adventure starts with a city tour in Kigali, from where you will continue to a visit to renowned Kigali Gisozi genocide war memorial site. While touring the memorial site, you will learn more about the genocide that took place in 1994. This tour continues as you will visit local markets in Kigali, the Kings palace and other interesting places.

After touring the city and different places within Kigali, you will have lunch before embarking on a transfer to Volcanoes National Park. The drive from Kigali to Volcanoes is about 2-3 hours.  Along the way, you will witness the charming countryside, beautiful, mountainous and landscapes. This 2 day Rwanda gorilla tracking tour will give you a top notch experience in Rwanda. You will arrive in the late evening and check in your already booked accommodation. There are various accommodation options ranging from budget to high-end luxury.

Day 2: Gorilla tracking at the Volcanoes National Park

On this second day of your gorilla trekking safari, you will wake up very early and have quick breakfast as you wait for our guide. Upon his/her arrival, you will embark on a transfer to Kinigi park headquarters. At the Park headquarters, you will meet other trekkers whom you join for briefing on gorilla trekking. The briefing usually takes place at 7:00 am, the purpose of the briefing is to share with you rules and requirements for gorilla trekking in Rwanda. This briefing will also help you to know how to conduct yourself during the trek.

You will be allowed to hire a porter and choose a gorilla family among the 10 habituated gorilla groups in Rwanda. After the briefing, you will start the tracking which is usually led by park guides. Depending on the location of your allocated gorilla group, this activity may take anywhere from one to five hours. When you spot the gorilla group, take as many photos as you can, but always follow the instructions given by your guide. It’s important to remain calm even if a gorilla family member approaches you.

Once your one hour is done, you will head back to the starting point where you will find your guide waiting to take you back to the lodge for a meal.  Later in the day, the guide will drive you back to Kigali or any other preferred drop-off point.
